COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 10, 2006) - The Space Foundation announced today that Eagle Eyes® has earned official recognition from the Space Certification Program and is the only sunglass lens to receive the lifetime Certified Space Technology seal. Eagle Eyes® developed its patented TriLenium Gold™ Lenses from technology originally developed by NASA scientists.

Engineers and scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) initially sought technology that would protect human vision from the detrimental effects of radiation from the light spectrum, including outer space sunlight. Their research resulted in the development of a lens technology that synthetically replicates the natural protective filters in the eyes of hawks and eagles, both known for their unparalleled visual acuity, even at great distances.

Eagle Eyes® TriLenium Gold™ Lenses can improve vision while providing the wearer protection from harmful ultraviolet radiation. By filtering out harmful radiation, reducing the scattering of light, and permitting vision-enhancing wavelengths of light, Eagle Eyes® TriLenium Gold Lenses lead to high visual clarity.

"The Space Foundation is pleased to certify Eagle Eyes® lens technology for its application of this innovative technology that enhances and protects human vision," said Kevin Cook, director of Space Technology Awareness for the Space Foundation.

Eagle Eyes® polarized lenses make scenes more vivid because harmless wavelength colors such as red, orange, yellow, and green are enhanced, and damaging rays in the blue, violet, and ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths are blocked.

Since the dawn of the space era, the world's best engineers at NASA and other space agencies have been developing advanced technologies that fuel space exploration and also result in a number applications that improve life on Earth. The Space Certification Program, managed by the Space Foundation in cooperation with NASA, provides official recognition for qualified products and services incorporating those space technologies.
